Since 1997, together with our customers, TK Maxx and Homesense have raised over €4.8 million for Enable Ireland to help support nearly 31,000 children and young people with disabilities to achieve their potential.
Funds are used to support specific projects directly benefiting children and young people with disabilities around the country, including purpose-built children’s service centres, transport services and specialist equipment and assistive technology.
13% of the population have a disability. Disability can affect any family at any time and when it does, Enable Ireland is there to provide advice and support from the very start.
The Power Family Story
Antonio and Miguel Power are six-year-old twins who attend Enable Ireland services in Navan. After their diagnosis in 2022, their mother Marian took part in the Early Bird course, which empowers parents to learn about autism and how to best support their children.
Antonio and Miguel are now Senior Infants in an autism class in a mainstream school and are really happy there. Enable Ireland helped get Augmentative and Alternative Communications (AAC) devices, which are essential for the boys to take part in school life. Marian and the boys also had training to use Lámh, a sign language system that is vital for helping parents support their autistic children with social communication.
Marian says, “The biggest different that Enable Ireland has made to me and my family is getting guidance on what to do and what to expect. As a parent you are always your child’s best advocate. My boys, like all autistic children, have additional needs. Like all parents, we just want our kids to be happy but they need more help, more support for this.”
